Open Door - Brick Lane '78 archiveBad Choices is an evening of brand new plays and poetry with stories ranging from the loner in your local pub to the British Intelligence officials who are only following orders. Altab Ali was a Bangladeshi textile worker who was murdered by three teenagers on 4 May 1978 in a racist attack as he walked home after work. It provoked the mass mobilisation of the Bengali community locally. It was a defining moment for the British-Bangladeshi's who first time ever stood-up on their own feet with their identity, rights and dignity against far-right party's propaganda and activities. With the current new wave of white supremacy and far-right activities showing their aggression not only in UK, but Europe and the other side of the Atlantic, this stand-up moment in 78 is still relevant now to all minority and oppressed groups.
