Forgotten now, the 1914-1918 Imperial War, otherwise known as the First World War, cost the lives of one-fifth of the population of young men in Britain. The last dying gasp of the ruling families of Europe, interbred and decadent, rotten with haemophilia, the conflict consumed entire countries in a maelstrom of bloody, mechanised death. Our story is concerned with the ordinary British soldier - the Tommy - who, ignorant of his masters insanity, trusting in his "elders and betters" went to war to fight for his king and country and do his duty. An ordinary kid, with average problems, thrown into a hell of shell, shot and trenches, fighting an enemy he could barely comprehend. This is his story - although it could be anyone s. Physical Theatre is the perfect medium to translate the horrors of the 1914-18 World War. Our physical techniques - utilising mime and modern dance to recreate the horrors of four years of carnage - transcend language to strike a huge blow that touches the hearts and minds of all working people everywhere across the world. BOOTS `N` SHOES Political Physical Theatre Company (BSHPPTC) have performed
OOH... WAR! at a number of working class rallies, schools and other traditionally non-theatre venues, as well as the LeCoq Mime School in Paris, Sadlers Wells and the Leicester Haymarket to bring their unique political insight to the masses. They are especially committed to reaching young people, the disabled and ethnic minorities who know nothing of history, kept in deliberate ignorance since the Eighties; numbed and indoctrinated by the new capitalist creed and fooled into status obsession and buying the latest mobile phones.
