One in the Street, the Other in Bed is a new adaptation of two classic plays by the Renaissance Portuguese playwright, Gil Vicente. Set during the voyages of discovery, when the world was getting wider and morals looser, this modern reworking brings the wit, sexuality and buzz of Renaissance Lisbon spinning into the 21st Century. Gil Vicente's work is rarely performed in this country but in the 16th Century his brand of social satire represented a revolutionary departure from traditional religious plays, and he is widely regarded as a founding figure in modern European theatre. His texts have been updated by White Leopard's Oli Henman and will be presented with additional material devised by the company.
