On Race Hill archiveBrighton - 'a town that always looks as if it is helping police with their inquiries'. Keith Waterhouse. What is the origin of Brighton's dodgy reputation? Is it really a legacy of the post-war years when spivs and gangsters ruled the town? Or have those troubled times simply been converted into currency - tall tales coated with sleazy seaside glamour - to attract the punters? When Duncan, a freelance journalist, undertakes to find the real answers, before long he is riding a rollercoaster of outrageous memories, wild fantasies and sinister rumours. On Race Hill is a new play about Brighton, inspired by a dark history. This work-in progress presentation marks the launch of Brighton Dome and Festival's Artist Development programme.
