Oceans of Stories is a collaboratively devised performance inspired by Half Moon's extensive work with our immediate community: the Ocean Estate in Limehouse. Following six months of workshops with local women, a storyteller, video artist, Stitches in Time and theatre artists a new performance has been sewn together. Half Moon conceived Oceans of Stories as a community development programme for women whose children attend our youth theatres. Many saw the Half Moon as a place where their children could participate in activity that enriches their experiences and develops confidence and were keen to take part themselves.. Using traditional techniques of storytelling and tapestry, the women were provided a safe space in which to find a voice and tell their story. Our forthcoming professional production is borne out of the women's histories, realities and aspirations. Devised by the company - Marva Alexander, Claire Askam, Norma Dixit and Catherine Mobley.
