My Son's On the Force archiveIn the mid fifties, a young lad from North Shields called Arthur McKenzie stumbled by sheer accident into the Newcastle City Police Force. In his time he dealt with vice, drugs and serious crime, rising to the rank of Detective Inspector, but his happiest times by far were as a beat man 'paddling the patch'. My Son's On The Force is an evening with Arthur, alongside readings from actor David Whittaker, as they patrol through the nightshifts of the 60's and 70's. This is Hard Beat, not Heartbeat.
