Details
Melencolia - based upon three famous prints of Albrecht Durer - deals with disease of the mind. Through image, movement, original music (recorded and live), and spoken and projected text (English, Cantonese, German, Latin), Melencolia looks at the life and times of Durer, enquiring into the idea of melancholy, the Iconoclastic Fury, the decline of Christianity in Britain, translation, black dogs, the Hong Kong riots of 1967, and sixteenth century photographs of Hong Kong. It is at once serious, melancholic, and comic. Melencolia is a solo performance by the UK-based artist Peter Suart. Suart is co-founder (1987) of the Hong Kong theatrico-musical ensemble ?the box', author and illustrator of the Tik and Tok books, and illustrator for the Folio Society. His solo theatre premiered in the UK with Fragile, at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff in 2011, which dealt with disease of the body. Presented in association with Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff.
