Created in 2004, in the immediate aftermath of the Orange Revolution in the Ukraine, this production explores corruption and the seizing of power by foul means. Live Ukrainian music by the extraordinary DakhaBrakha Ethno-Cjaps Band accompanies a mesmerising performance. The essence of the Macbeth story is presented in ritualised form by actors wearing an eclectic mix of traditional clothing and masks. Sensual and exotic, the production unfolds against a kaleidoscopic backdrop of richly coloured carpets.
