In 1904, a Lisboan artist is the most famous sculptor alive, but by 1910 he has killed himself, and his closest friend traces the loves, inspirations and mental terrors that lead to his horrific end. The realisation of his own mortality leads him to a frightening obsession with ageing, focussing on his beautiful wife as his mind disintegrates.
