1917. Newquay. As war rages in France, the crew of the James Stevens No.5 lifeboat make ready to launch into a gale-led sea so powerful it ripped slates off roofs and blew spray and foam into the streets. John Clemens dons his gear and prepares to leave while his wife, Jane, is wracked with fear and foreboding of what may be to come. No one had seen such a sea and no one could imagine its power. This is a play about balancing heroism and failure.
