Leitmotiv archiveIn a letter to her daughter, a mother reveals why she abandoned her at birth and left the country torn apart by civil war. This same conflict transformed her lover into an enemy and a deserter while she joined the resistance movement. But the war eventually reaches and maims them both, each one choosing an escape from an unbearable reality once peace has returned. The fragments of a love story are pieced together by two actors and a mezzo-soprano in this poetic and intense musical drama. Leitmotiv uses a constantly changing visual environment of shadows, video projections and startling lighting effects to create a war-torn landscape. Leitmotiv calls upon imagination and poetry to provoke confrontation between the forces of life and death.
