Instructions for Forgetting

An exploration of vision and memory through the medium of video 'I ask my friends to send stories and video tapes. For the stories I ask my friends for things that are true. The topics can be anything. I ask for short reports on things that have happened in the world. For the tapes I say, - Don t make me anything special - send what you have. I say, I m sure whatever you choose is bound to be right. Using home movies, interviews, letters and tapes from friends, alongside recordings of world events, Instructions for Forgetting is an intimate documentary performed in a space strewn with video monitors, VCRs and video cassettes. Part essay, part narrative, this is a surprising and comic performance, a link between personal and public history. Play, rewind, fast forward, slow motion, pause, stop - From the shimmering sea in Beirut to a woman stripping in Barnsley, Forced Entertainment presents us with an unnerving and systematic blurring of the borders between fact and fiction.
