The play was staged for the first time at the Argentina Theatre in Rome in 1933, directed by Luigi Pirandello and performed by Marta Abba Theatre Company. Luigi Antonelli was a friend and contemporary of Pirandello, and one of the moving spirits of the 'grotesque' theatre in Italy.
