Happy End archiveA melodrama with songs. Guys and Dolls meets The Threepenny Opera in this musical melodrama set in a mythical Chicago of the 1920s. A vicious and incompetent gang of criminals collides head on with the reforming zeal of the Salvation Army and the sparks ignite an unlikely romance between the leader of the gang, Bill Cracker, and the hellfire preacher, Hallelujah Lil. As the plot twists through some outlandish coincidences, the two sides discover they have more in common than they could have imagined and finally unite in an outrageously Happy End. In this, this, their second collaboration, Brecht and Weill mix love story, melodrama, music hall and thriller to create popular entertainment with some classic Kurt Weill songs.
