Golden Girls follows five women who are competing for places in the England4 x 100 metres relay team at the Athens Olympics. Obtaining sponsorship from Ortolan, who market the Golden Girl range of cosmetics, gives the team a chance of winning. Illegal drug taking, gutter press and racial issues dominate the lives of these five young runners who are all attempting to secure a place in the team of four chosen for the final.
