Four Dogs and a Bone is a fast moving, Mamet-style look at four people trying to make a movie. Enter the producer. 'I've got..on my rectum..a surface ulcer, a canker, the size of a jumbo shrimp.' He's got an eight million-dollar movie he's trying to shoot for five. Say hello to the starlet. 'I've been incested. By my brother, my father, my sister. It's a chain.' It's the writer's first film script. 'I can cut thirteen scenes. Then I'm going home to bury my mother. I'll fix the end later.' Then there's the star. ' You walk through your scenes like Bambi with polio.... I'm a character actress from here on. Somebody's aunt, somebody's crying sister.' She and the starlet are ruthlessly trying to out manoeuvre each other so that there can be only one female star! It's a very witty and dry comedy from the author of The Big Funk and the Oscar winning screenplay, Moonstruck.
