But Herbert should be worrying about things closer to home, like his wife Phyllis. With its brooding shadows, simmering passion and a storyline soaked in suspense, Billy Wilder's 1944 film masterpiece starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray and Edward G Robinson is regarded as the definitive film noir.
