Dehktay Angaray is a genuine drama about real events and people. Rifat Shamim's Hindi/Urdu adaptation of
Look Back in Anger can be considered as a second flowering of the plant germinated in the 1960s by John Osborne. Ajay, the protagonist of
Dehktay Angaray, and spokesman for the younger generation is both a warm-hearted idealist, and a cruel, morbid misfit in a group of reasonably normal and well-disposed people such as Savitr, Roofi and Nimmo. The play highlights the desperation of those who are angry with life and consequently become curiously aimless. The play is predominantly about people and not necessarily about ideas, but the script succeeds in making them into a convincing dramatic representation of complex human beings.
