Christopher and His Kind archiveIn 1929 the novelist Christopher Isherwood left England on a one-way ticket to Berlin in search of intellectual freedom and sexual liberation. Ignoring the disapproval of his overbearing mother Kathleen, Isherwood launched himself into Berlin's underground gay scene and wrote a series of successful novels reflecting Germany's fall into the grip of the Nazi Party. Spanning ten years of Christopher's life this exciting new script tells one man's story of sex, love and belonging, set against the backdrop of a nation torn apart by poverty, prejudice and fascism. An ensemble cast bring to life the people who shaped Christopher during these formative years, including Wysten Auden, Jean Ross and the infamous Gerald Hamilton, and take the audience on a journey into the crumbling decadence of Weimar Berlin.
