Chimneys archive1926: when vast oil reserves are discovered in one of the new Balkan states - the notoriously unstable Republic of Herzoslovakia - the race is on to win the oil concession. Pinning its hopes on the restoration of the monarchy, His Majesty s Government arranges a secret meeting with the heir to the throne at its favourite diplomatic rendezvous, the great country house known as Chimneys. Anthony Cade is visiting London to deliver the memoirs of a certain Count Stylptich to a publisher, when he too is summoned to Chimneys.
