Chekhov's triple bill consists of one-act plays about 'sad comicality of everyday life' with which the Russian master first made his reputation in the theatre. The Proposal, the Bear and the Anniversary are full of energy, invention and humour, but they are not simple farces or boulevard vaudevilles. They share with Chekhov's full-length plays (the Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters and the Cherry Orchard) his concern with complexities of human behaviour, however trivial and banal. Hilarious and ridiculous, these classics of comic theatre, are bound to carry you through a range of emotions while rolling with laughter.
