Bye Bye Blackbird
Work:: Bye Bye Blackbird (S2694)
A portrait of Zelda Fitzgerald. With dangerous currents swirling beneath the calm surface of her parents' austere Alabama middle-class existence and a terrifying history of insanity and suicide in her family, it was probably inevitable that the life of a strikingly beautiful little, girl who sought for and usually got what she wanted, would end in tragedy. Married to F. Scott Fitzgerald while still in her teens, together they epitomised the Roaring Twenties. She became the embodiment of its spirit, its 'Golden Girl'. Her daring behaviour dictated the new morality of the 'flapper' and inspired many of Scott's fictional characters. Bye Bye Blackbird places Zelda in her room in a private institution in Baltimore.. Still beautiful, still hopeful, still wittily musing on her wild experiences during a crazy era. As her mental and physical health declines terrifying voices and hallucinations haunt her, revealing an obsession with their daughter Scottie, her failure to become a professional ballerina, a sexually inept marriage,infidelity, suicide attempts and artistic frustrations.
