The action of the play takes place at the home of the Walling family in Hampstead. It seems just another ordinary day until the Chimney Sweep arrives. He however finds a lot more than soot up one of the chimneys. Also Henry Walling who is a Psychiatrist is having difficulties with one of his female patients, who arrives on the scene to complicate matters. This and the arrival of the Police send the whole household into turmoil. As with any good play by the end of Act 3 all has been revealed and resolved, with a few twists and turns along the way.
