BPolar archiveHave you ever felt that you're going mad? Have you ever felt that this crazy world we live in is driving you out of your mind? Gogol's "Diary of a Madman" is one of the first literary pieces touching on mental illness in the first person. Though it dates to the late 19th century, the cruel, absurd, Kafkaesque world illustrated by Gogol perfectly reflects our hectic present day reality. The story of a gray clerk, who falls in love with his manager's daughter. His love becomes an obsession and sparks the bipolar disorder that lurks within him. The development of the mental illness is illustrated onstage, through the eyes of its victim. All this, without a single word spoken onstage, through movement, video art, music, and lighting, in the "Ayit" Ensemble's unique stage language.
