Black Ey'd Susan archiveWritten by Douglas Jerrold in 1829, when the country was still recovering from the fallout of the Napoleonic wars, Black Ey d Susan takes something of a side-swipe at the widespread corruption that was rife within the British Navy. Full of recognisably stock comic characters, but written with an underlying serious message, the play proved a massive and popular hit with audiences of the day.
