Berth archiveIn the early hours of 15 April 1912 a dream for 2,223 people ended in disaster. The previous night, Royal Mail Steamer Titanic, the White Star Line's latest contender for the Atlantic crossing, had struck an iceberg, four days into her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. 1,517 people lost their lives. The impact of this tragedy resulted in media frenzy, litigation and eventually to changes in maritime law. More recently, worldwide interest has been increased through cinema and painstaking marine archaeology. Berth is a collection of dramatic stories commemorating the centenary of Titanic. This is a collection of voices that commemorates those who were lost and celebrates those who survived by touching hearts and minds; and personal guilt, grief and joy.
