Belle archiveA play from Canada. Set in New York shortly after the abolition of slavery, Belle and her husband have made the long journey from Atlanta to begin a new life. Freedom turns out not to be quite as straightforward as they had hoped, and when they find themselves involved with a passionate suffragette, ideas of rights and equality are thrown into new relief. Black rights and women's rights collide in a world seeking to remake itself. This exquisitely musical piece speaks of practical struggle and personal choice with wit, charm and a powerful belief in love.
