Rosario Cortez, a resident of El Barrio in New York City, is stuck in one stifling room with his porn-addicted father and his senile grandfather. He's also stuck with a therapist because, in a blind rage, he slugged his pregnant girlfriend. During the course of his work as a window washer for luxury high rise apartments, he meets Morris, a wealthy gay man, who proceeds to educate him morally and culturally. Rejecting his grandfather's willful ignorance, and resenting his father for never having dreamed, Rosario's desire to keep his unborn son out of the urban ghetto leads to heartbreak, violence and, perhaps, a chance....Edwin Sanchez is a talented young gay Latino playwright, whose work has won numerous awards in the USA. Barefoot Boy with Shoes On was performed at the 1998 Eugene O'Neill Conference, and selected to represent the National Playwrights Conference in Russia in 1999.
