Barbaric Comedies

T0680516877
Widely regarded as ahead of his time (1866-1936), Valle-Inclan's plays were rarely performed in his lifetime. Amongst the best known are Divine Words and Bohemian Lights and the trilogy of plays known as Barbaric Comedies: Silver Face, Rampant Eagle and Romance (published between 1907 and 1922). The sheer size and breadth of these three separate plays has meant that Barbaric Comedies has rarely been seen in its entirety and this new production enables the audience to enjoy the trilogy in one evening. Long recognised as a masterpiece of Spanish theatre, Barbaric Comediesis a tragi-comedy following the fortune of one Don Juan Manuel Montenegro. The epic saga of despotic womaniser Don Juan Manuel and the ferocity and greed of his savage sons is told in a wild and wonderful story by one of Spain's greatest modern playwrights. This play contains adult scenes and themes that some may find offensive. Running time 4 hours.
