And They Played Shang-a-Lang archiveAnd they played Shang-A-Lang tells the story of what life was like growing up in 70s Edinburgh. James Douglas has been killed in a car crash and his niece has decided to put on the last play that he was working on in memory of her dear uncle. As she reads his play, James comes back from the grave to narrate the story which is told through flashback. Through laughter, tears and 70s hit music numbers, we follow Jim's life as he and his friends negotiate the stormy waters of his adolescence. From the school playground to school disco, the Murphy family Hogmanay parties and the school nativity play, we witness his life through his memories as it unfolded around him. His first encounters with love, death and his first stumbling dealings with the opposite sex. This production has it all. The strong cast brings the story to life with verve and energy that will leave you crying out for more.
