To mark the centenary of the birth of Carlo Levi, various events are being staged by the University of Strathclyde in conjunction with the Piedmont Region. This specially commissioned play, inspired by
Christ Stopped at Eboli, uses music, mime, movement and language (English and Italian) to conjure the landscape of Lucania, where Levi, an opponent of Fascism, served the sentence of internal exile imposed on him by Mussolini's judges. Unsentimental language and visual images marry the political testimony of Levi the writer with the vibrant colour of Levi the artist.
