American Haiku

Five ten-minute plays about the cycle of love:
Perfect by Mary Gallagher is a sassy comedy about a woman being match-made with a man who is wonderful in every way - but who may be a Republican voter.
Bread by Andy Backer is a quiet, still piece reflecting the depth of a love between a married couple during hard times.
Pillow Talk by John Pielmeier is a rampant physical farce set in a new age marriage counselling centre.
Cover by Jeffrey Sweet (with Stephen Johnson and Sandra Hastie) is a taut drama focusing on infidelity. And to round it off,
The Interrogation by Murphy Guyer is a bitingly sharp catch-up between an ex-couple, who start the cycle of love again.

Other Info ***: Back in 1976 the Actors Theatre of Louisville in Kentucky, USA, began an annual national ten-minute play contest, with the winning scripts professionally produced at the theatre itself as part of its Humana Festival of New American Plays. This event helped establish the ten-minute play as the haiku of the American stage. Thirty years later, the scripts are published and performed all over the world. Blue Masque will be performing five of them, all very diverse in writing style, that reflect different stages of the cycle of love, and the performances will strongly reflect that over half the cast are British-based American actors.
