As many of you will be aware, The Playhouse opts not to stage a traditional pantomime, as this is already well catered for by the Everyman here in Cheltenham and the Roses in Tewkesbury. In recent years, Friends Theatre Company have staged original "pantomimes for childish grown-ups" - basically, a silly night out for those with a childish sense of humour! Previous entertainments have included their alternative look at Cluedo in Murder: A Pantomime and, last year, they aimed their arrows at that perennial Boxing Day film favourite, The Great Escape in Escape From Christmas. This year, Friends will be taking as their source Alice in Wonderland but using it to have not-so-subtle digs at the world of political correctness. Join young Alice as she passes through her laptop screen into a parallel, non-PC Wonderland in search of her beloved Google Bird. Will she succeed in avoiding the clutches of the evil Cursor and his Health & Safety obsessed wife, the Spellchecker? Will she get on with the Mad Hacker and his friends? What is CD Ron up to? And what would Lewis Carroll make of it all? These alternative pantos always sell very well - particularly in the second week and with offices looking for a different night out - so we are now opening the booking for these performances. Tickets are priced at £10 and the Thursday performances will commence at 20:30 and have a late bar until midnight to make allowance for Cheltenham late night shopping.
