After Her Death, short listed in 1999 for the Northern Electric & Gas Awards: Art Event of the Year, is a hilarious, yet poignant comedy following the trials, tribulations and aerobic classes of four daughters, unknowingly haunted by their recently deceased mothers. With the supernatural power to start and stop time with a single clap, the mothers interact with the audience, telling tales of woe and love whilst still trying to keep their girls on the straight and narrow. Elvis, a live raffle and a voice to die for are magically entwined with issues that affect a vast majority of women who have worked with Open Clasp to inform this superb play: teenage pregnancy, eating disorders, mother/daughter relationships and homophobia are explored in a sensitive, humourous, innovative and entertaining way.
