It is New Year's Eve 2011. Tobias Bielby is not in celebratory mood. Terminally ill, he is penned up in a nursing home, disappointed and embittered. As a local young man who initially wanted to be a writer, he drifted into journalism at a local newspaper. With a God-given nose for a 'sexy' story, he caught the eye of London tabloid hacks, who enticed him with the prospect of an excellent salary and, more importantly for him, celebrity contacts. He became tremendously popular with readers, and universally feared by the famous, as 'the man with a nose for dirt'. As the end of the year approaches, he is visited by some extraordinary characters who remind him that there were more truths and many more laughs along the way than he ever realised.
