A Foolish Fancy archiveActors! They're an odd bunch and no mistake; to some an endearing mix of vaulting ambition and sweet sensitivity. The 'hero' of this piece of comedy theatre, Mr Stanley Fancy, is an actor; ambitious, sensitive, but he's also foolhardy, more determined, and more drunk than most. This is the story of one actor's attempts to get an audition with one of the country's most prestigious theatre companies - The Royal Shakespeare Company. It's also about friends who try to help, the fools who hinder, and the karma we can't avoid. Our Stanley has an unusual approach. "Apathy in my business is a crime. You may as well pull the phone out of its socket, or tell your agent you're moving to Taransay. " His approach veers from the ridiculous to the borderline criminal; "If at first you don't succeed, take hostages!"
