Imagine fleeing your homeland with your family. In terror. You go to live in a foreign country, a place where they don't speak your language, or worship your idea of God, if you have one. You're misunderstood, resented, begrudged, despised. You have different ways of doing things. You learn quickly that if you stick to what you know, it won't go down well. You could keep your head down and fit in. Maybe give yourself a different name, native to your new home. You decide to let the small stuff go. But there's bigger stuff. Life and death stuff with points of principle attached to it... Things like... the right to live, to contribute.
