Details

The show combines new music, circus acts, giant puppets and video projections to give a macabre twist to Shakespeare's classic tale of the Danish prince. Led by 'criminal castrato' Martyn Jacques, with percussionist Adrian Huge and bass player Adrian Stout, The Tiger Lillies have been singing their own brand of blasphemous ballads, tragic tales and debauched ditties since 1991. The trio have been heralded for their songs of the pickpockets and pimps of Soho, and are known for the Olivier-award winning Shockheaded Peter, a dramatisation of the cautionary tales of Heinrick Hoffman, which toured the world to sold-out theatres. Now they tackle Shakespeare's legendary play with a new song cycle written by Jacques in the band's Brechtian punk cabaret style. The singer and accordion player acts as a court jester who has come back from the dead as a macabre musician to guide the audience through the tale of betrayal and murder, love and revenge.
