From the team that brought last year's International Performance Festival Cardiff is a new group show performance specially created for Chapter. Featuring the work of pioneering theatre company Zuppa Theatre (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Shirotama Hitsujiya (Artistic Director of Yubiwa Hotel, Tokyo, Japan) and local theatre-makers Valmai Jones and James Tyson, Spring, Autumn, Summer, Winter: Pop-Up Love Party is a a philosophical feast: a theatre show accompanied by a 7-course taster menu created by Michelin starred New York chef Daniel Burns. The occasion? To reflect on philosophy and raise a glass to love in the 21st century. A reimagining of Plato's Symposium (The Drinking Party) in which a group of leading public figures got together to eat, drink and think about a mysterious thing: erotic love. The performance develops from a series of questions: What is space? Where do we find space for thinking within all the complexities of everyday life? Plato hated theatre because he thought its focus on visceral experience was a distraction from serious contemplation. Spring, Autumn, Summer, Winter: Pop-Up Love Party wonders if both things can happen simultaneously. Can emotional and sensory experience actually inspire deep thought?
