Rehearsed Reading. A comedy in five acts by Hannah Cowley, first performed on 3 Dec 1791 at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden. Linking perfectly with Staging The East (see below), this comedy by another successful woman playwright of the Georgian era has it all: beautiful Russian slaves, a cheeky French servant with his own ideas about liberty, and a Turkish Bassa in love.
