In 1925 and an old country house, which had been empty for some time, had been bought by Colonel James Warburton who had escaped from "the troubles" in Ireland. His home there, Drenagh Castle, had been destroyed by fire and he fled with his wife Adrienne to England. Shortly after arriving in England, Adrienne died and Colonel Warburton spent some time travelling the world. On one of these journeys he met and married Charlotte Baker, an American from New Orleans. In 1928 James returns to the house once more with plans to end his travels and make the house a permanent home for himself and his new bride. There is a sudden death and one member of the group takes charge of proceedings, seeking to get to the bottom of the afternoon's events. All the clues are there to lead to the right conclusion, but will they be correctly deduced? The investigator, with the help of the other guests at the dinner party must get to the truth before the afternoon is out!
