Jarideh: A Secret Encounter by Tania El Khoury

Work:: Jarideh: A Secret Encounter by Tania El Khoury (S01404787915)

'Deeply unsettling, ridiculously exciting and right on the cutting edge' The Times. Jarideh (meaning newspaper) is a one-on-one encounter lasting 45 minutes where both visitor and performer become partners in crime. Inspired by crime films and the real life stories of the glamorous female agents of the Lebanese resistance, artist Tania El Khoury creates immersive site-specific performances. Sites have ranged from the Great Hall of the British Museum to an old church in Beirut once used as a military base during the civil war. LIFT is supporting an emerging generation of theatre artists from the Middle East who are making work within the context of the tumultuous events sweeping across the region. As part of a six-year cycle of commissions and presentations LIFT begins its 30th anniversary season by taking part in Shubbak, a London-wide festival of Arab Culture, with two theatre productions from Egypt and Lebanon.

CORONAVIRUS: All venues in the UK were shut down on March 16, 2020, and the restrictions were finally lifted on July 19, 2021. It is important to mention that the UK Theatre Web archive listings (iUKTDb) from March 2020 to July 2021 might not be accurate due to the lack of information regarding rescheduled and cancelled shows.
