Details

Imagine emptiness as well as presence; darkness with light, sound touched by golden silence, loss and finding again. Imagine loss of hope itself in life that we may sometimes feel; and the struggle to transcend loss: to find again. Imagine music associated with loss and melancholia: such as requiems, Portuguese Fado, Joy Division, Indian raags. Imagine a particular an experience in classical Indian art aesthetics that immerse you in moods, tastes and flavours (rasa) through suggestion (dhavani) The work is space-specific. The artists adapt the presentation and the music according to the rythyms of the space, the culture, the landscape. Three live artists and three composers, two original compositions together with one random score. Each night each the three live artists perform their individual stories in response to three pieces of music: one of which they may hear for the first time. Upon arrival each spectator removes his or her shoes and socks and feet are washed by the artists. House lights go down and the stage is almost unlit. Each artist, wearing skin-tight luminous white costume moves through the space as if a phantom, a virtual image. Every so often the almost dark stage lights come on for a split second to fully reveal the performers and then everything turns dark again. Music is heard in this silence.
