Economics Burlesque

Economics Burlesque

Work:: Economics Burlesque (S169341808)

The faded beauty of Economics undraped and close-up for those no longer beguiled by the old routines. Dazzlingly brought to you by The Cockpit in collaboration with the New Economics Foundation. Revolution Now? Globalisation has magnified the problems of capitalism for all to see. No longer do we trust orthodox national economic policies to deliver a future without huge environmental, political, and social crisis points. Alternatives to the obsession with growth, consumerism, gross inequities and planet death must be found! Or are we just panicking because the old rich nations no longer control the game? As globalisation quickens the spread of capitalism into every aspect of life tricky questions will arise but with major material benefits for most of us. We'll just need to work a bit harder. Where do you stand? With Mr Brand or Mr Osborne? And what real alternatives are there anyway? The Cockpit Theatre of Ideas announces Economics Burlesque; a series of monthly events in collaboration with the New Economics Foundation and compered by Timandra Harkness, that will look behind the dazzle, explain orthodox economics, challenge some of its basic assumptions, get to grips with the dangers that face us and open up new ways of thinking about life, work, and wealth.
