Childsplay, a new outdoor production by S.P.I.D. Theatre Company which opens on 8 January, examines the different ways children have played outdoors from the 1950s to today. Marbles, chants and rhymes, make-believe play, tag and ball games are played out with the audience as we ask - have children's games and imaginations really changed? Audiences will not only be watching or participating in various games but also listening to audio testimonies through headphones. Staying true to S.P.I.D'.s ethos of 'wraparound theatre', the company have interviewed local people of all ages recalling how they played in the park and other areas when they were twelve. Childsplay becomes a living drama documentary, surrounding the audience with fictional characters whilst treating them to the recorded views of real ones.
