Standup comics making theatre. Theatre artists making shows that look like standup. Serious stuff by funny people and funny stuff by serious people. CPT's Beyond the joke festival celebrates what happens when standup and theatre meet. When art and entertainment, jokes and deadly seriousness vie for the mic. Beyond the joke is headlined by The Way You Tell Them by Rachel Mars, an unmissable solo show about the compulsion and desire to be funny. It's about gags, laughing and families that use jokes in places that aren't normal. Why are we so obsessed with comedy? What happens when you don't resort to easy jokes so much? The show has been developed as part of CPT's Starting Blocks programme 2012, and also at the Basement, Brighton. Rachel is a performance maker with a background in theatre, live art and comedy. The festival also features performances by Sara Pascoe, Julian Fox, Chris Brett Bailey (Made in China) and Nigel Barrett (Shunt), Daniel Bye, Greg Wohead, Jamie Wood, Bush & McCluskey and many more. New work from Sara Pascoe, Rachel Mars, John-Luke Roberts. A cabaret curated by Julian Fox. Daniel Bye's The Price of Everything
