In response to the recent devastating events in Haiti, Hampstead Theatre and Talawa Theatre Company are holding a benefit in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee Haiti Earthquake Appeal. Writers including Richard Bean, Juliet Gilkes Romero, Joel Horwood, Anders Lustgarten, Abi Morgan, Ed Pilkington, Atiha Sen Gupta, Steve Waters and Roy Williams are creating immediate response poems, readings and short plays which will be read on Wednesday 27 January. Following the readings there will be a panel discussion with Alex von Tunzelmann (historian and author of forthcoming book on Hispaniola and Cuba) and Jean-Marc Flambert (a Haitian resident in London, who was the UK and Ireland director of Sri Lankan Tourism when the tsunami hit Sri Lanka), and chaired by Juliet Gilkes Romero (playwright and BBC World journalist).
