Alice Anderson's Travelling Factory
Work:: Alice Anderson's Travelling Factory (S404078388)
During the past two years Alice Anderson's performances have concentrated on 'mummifying' objects (and buildings) with copper thread and red fibre. These have included small personal items, like the artist's laptop or gun, and also large-scale locations like the Cinematheque Francaise building in Paris or the Freud Museum in London. In spring 2012, Anderson began to mummify all of the objects and furniture from her London studio with copper thread while inviting various performers to join her in these actions at the studio, turning the studio space into a FACTORY. Subsequently Anderson founded her TRAVELLING FACTORY where the group of performers entwine objects and buildings onsite. FACTORY's first chapter was launched at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in September, it continued at Riflemaker during 'Frieze Week' in October 2012 and will continue at The Print Room. For The Print Room, Anderson has chosen objects from Algeria which are part of her consciousness and memory. Ten performers from the Artist's FACTORY will be winding copper thread around objects in front of the audience, showing their specific process of making sculptures live. The sculptures resulting from these performances will be exhibited at the 1st floor space of The Print Room prior to being presented at the Venice Biennale in June 2013.
