The Poison Garden

Work:: The Poison Garden (S0232226593)

The Poison Garden takes its roots in the poetry of William Blake, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The words weave themselves into a narrative presenting a dark, macabre garden presided over by a dejected tree. A Sunflower, a Pebble and a Clod bicker over a Sick Rose whilst the Poison Tree sleeps. Suddenly, a living girl rushes into the garden stating that she can save its diseased inhabitants. The ensuing argument wakes the tree, who arises to find her beloved Rose slumped and dying. The girl pleads with her - she must take the rose to the light to save the garden. But the Tree, crushed with depression and self-disgust, subsumes her into the Poison Garden.
