Maskarade

Maskarade

Work:: Maskarade (S01303564232)

A comic opera in three acts (1906). A sparkling comedy of masters and servants and disguises - not to mention a good measure of young love. The story revolves around a masked ball with guests from two generations who have differing expectations. Magdalone, ignored by her husband after 20 years of marriage, wants to flirt and dance once again, while her son Leander hopes to meet his beloved Leonore. Nothing and nobody is going to stop them from going to the ball. At the end of the opera, however, comes the moment when all masks fall away and everyone has to face facts....
Music Carl Nielsen
Lyrics Vilhelm Andersen (after Ludvig Holberg's play Mascarade)
